ROCKLAND, Maine — A Bosnian man accused of trying to strangle his pregnant girlfriend in Maine has been deported.
The Portland Press Herald reports that the charges of aggravated assault and domestic violence assault were dismissed last week in Knox County.
An affidavit indicates the girlfriend told police that Milorad Stanivukovic threw her on a bed and tried to strangle her in Warren as she pleaded for her life and that of their unborn baby.
District Attorney Natasha Irving said agents from Immigration and Custom Enforcement took the 33-year-old Cushing man into custody the day after his initial court appearance in Rockland. The charges could be restored if he were to return to the United States.
