1. RANKED-CHOICE TABULATION BEGINS FOR MAINE'S 2ND CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT
Ranked-choice voting is set to begin today in Augusta to determine which candidate will be representing Maine's 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Neither incumbent Republican Rep. Bruce Poliquin, nor one of his challengers, Democratic candidate Jared Golden reached the 50 percent voter threshold needed to win the race outright.
2. KMART LOCATION IN WATERVILLE IS SET TO CLOSE
The Kmart location in Waterville is one of 40 recently announced locations that the retailer, Sears Holdings will be closing as they continue to navigate Chapter 11 bankruptcy. They filed for bankruptcy back in October after years of staggering sales. The Waterville location, which is set to close sometime in early 2019, marks the second location that is set to close in the state of Maine. A Kmart location in Madawaska is expected to close at the end of 2018.
3. HUNTER FOUND DEAD IN CASWELL
Authorities have identified the body of 71-year-old Dennis Hayden Perrault of Saco. According to Police, Perrault's body was found inside of his truck, which was parked on a dirt road off Route 1A. Police added that there was no indication of foul play.
4. SOURCES: PRESIDENT TRUMP CONSIDERING CHRIS CHRISTIE TO BE THE NEXT U.S. ATTORNEY GENERAL.
Sources have told NBC News that President Donald Trump is in the process of considering former New Jersey Republican Governor Chris Christine to be the next U.S. Attorney General. Sources familiar with the matter told NBC that Mr. Christie visited the White House on Thursday, but there is no indication that President Trump spoke to him on the matter. Christie, now a political contributor with NBC News, first rose to prominent in 2015-2016 when he endorsed Mr. Trump's candidacy for president after failing to get the Republican nomination. Christie's visit to the White House on Thursday came after President Trump asked former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions to resign over anger from Sessions recusing himself from the on-going investigation involving alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
5. SUPREME COURT JUSTICE RUTH BADER GINSBURG HOSPITALIZED WITH THREE FRACTURED RIBS
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been hospitalized for three fractured ribs after she fell in her office at the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington D.C. on Wednesday night. Ginsburg, 85, who has spent a quarter century as an Associate Justice on the U.S. Supreme Court, was taken to the hospital on Thursday after experiencing discomfort.
