Prosecutor: Ellsworth teen planned to be 'most notorious school shooter in American history'

Hancock County Deputy District Attorney Toff Toffolon said in court, "It was Mr. Allen's expressed intention to become the most notorious school shooter in American history by exceeding the number of people killed in Florida."

ELLSWORTH, (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- A teenager charged with threatening to shoot and kill students and teachers at Ellsworth High School was in court on Friday.

Nineteen-year-old Michael Allen of Ellsworth appeared before a judge at the Hancock County Courthouse charged with terrorizing and violating the terms of his bail release.

Hancock County Deputy District Attorney Toff Toffolon said in court, “It was Mr. Allen’s expressed intention to become the most notorious school shooter in American history by exceeding the number of people killed in Florida.” Toffalon later went on to make a point about the bail and said, “ This isn’t a joke or an isolated incident but the first step in a plan to carry out his threat.”

According to the Ellsworth Police Department, the FBI office in Bangor contacted them Wednesday about a possible school threat. The FBI was notified by a Denmark-based company, which hosts a mobile game called Clash of Clans. The company provided the FBI with the IP address and post from the user of the game.

In an interview with NEWS CENTER Maine, Ellsworth Police Chief Glenn Moshier said the online threat was "credible," that it targeted the high school's resource officer, and that Allen allegedly said he would pull the fire alarm to gather students. The post stated he "could kill 30 if he was lucky and he would be the most notorious person."

Moshier said Allen is a senior at the high school who was supposed to graduate last year. However, Allen still needed to meet a few non-academic requirements to graduate.

Allen was arrested without incident at his mother's home. According to police, weapons were found at the residence, but not in Allen's possession. Allen was known to authorities after he was previously arrested on OUI and assault charges.
