PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The American Red Cross has put out an urgent call for blood donations in New England.
According to officials with the Red Cross, it's been a tough summer trying to recruit enough donors to fill hospitals.
They say all blood types are necessary, but especially people with type O negative. That's because O negative can be used in anyone. It's especially helpful for patients involved in a trauma.
There were blood drives in both Portland and Bangor Tuesday.
