Friends in Action

Friends in Action is a clearinghouse connecting seniors and adults with disabilities with the resources they need in Hancock and portions of Washington, Penobscot, and Waldo Counties. Nearly 200 volunteers provide a wide variety of important services to nearly 800 homebound and elderly adults, including transportation, well-being phone calls and friendly home visits. Volunteers provide minor home repairs and yard work.

Through a partnership between FIA and the Ellsworth YMCA, seniors and children come together in a mutually beneficial and enjoyable way. FIA is working with other entities in Ellsworth to revitalize Moore School into a community center providing people, of all ages, with many more recreational, educational, and social opportunities.

According to Cynthia Donaldson, "FIA supports its volunteers just as it supports the community, with responsiveness, respect, and warmth. They are an agency of integrity and dedication."
