SANFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — An air show for planes, big and very small, kicked off Saturday in Sanford.
The Maine Jet Rally and Model Expo shows off the latest tech in remote control helicopters, cars, jets and photography drones, as well as full-size planes.
Spectators could even try their hand at flying or driving via remote control. And for the model enthusiasts, it was an opportunity to see what their peers have been working on.
"Just a great day out," said spectator Hugh Loughlin. "Basically a great way to see a lot of interesting stuff that you never thought you'd see before."
"It's actually pretty neat to listen when there's a big crowd," said competitor Rick Shepard. "Everybody gets behind them and you hear them yelling, hooting and hollering for the cars. It's pretty neat to watch and listen when you're up there driving."
There will be another flight demonstration Sunday at 1 p.m.
