Come along to the most exclusive party in Maine as we gam up with the Windjammers. We'll meet Fox News commentator and counter-terrorism expert, Colonel David Hunt. And we'll connect with Maine's colonial roots when we visit a pre-revolutionary home that was built for a mast agent of the British Navy, The Tate House.

Show #2010-10

Original broadcast: July 3, 2010

Bring on summer, baby!  I go in all seasons and all weather, but I gotta admit this is kind of nice.  How about another hour of daylight?  If anybody reads this get on the Bill Green's Maine facebook page and let me know if you approve or disapprove of going on Atlantic Savings Time for six weeks in the summer.  Also, we have a special 4th of July treat for you posted there.  Here's the link to our Facebook page.

Part one this week involves the Windjammer Fleet.  A couple of times a year they "gam up."  That's a get together where they all tie up together and go from boat to boat for one big party.  The word "gam" comes from the old days when a group of whaling boats was called a "gam."  For more information on Maine's Windjammer Fleet, just go to this website.

Col. David Hunt was a hoot.  I got a brother who retired as a Colonel with a whole chest full of medals.  I find him inspirational, but since he's my brother, I always wonder if he indeed has the whole world order entirely figured out, as he implies.  I feel the same way about David.  I do like military people.  I like the discipline, the patriotism and the intensity.  I don't think they waste a lot of time. That's good.  David Hunt has lived a very interesting life and I hope we've shown that there's a person with heart behind the uniform.

Plovers.  Rhymes with lovers.  Aren't they cute? I don't have anything more to say.  Look them up on Wiki or check out the website.

Tate House is one of those places that few go to even though it's right there.  It is very much worth the trip. The story of George Tate is a fascinating one and a great way to learn about the Revolution.
