MT. VERNON (NEWS CENTER) -- A camp counselor from Camp Laurel dies after being struck by a vehicle.
The accident happened Monday on Route 41 in Mt. Vernon. The accident involved one vehicle and three pedestrians.
According to police, Joseph Rouleau of Fayette was driving a black 1995 Isuzu Trooper when he struck two of the three counselors who were walking back to Camp Laurel.
Rouleau received non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Loyd Olson escaped injury by diving into the woods as the vehicle approached. Mia Jessep received non-life threatening injuries and was treated at Maine General in Augusta. 21-year-old Corrie Lazar was pronounced dead at the scene after attempts to resuscitate were unsuccessful. Lazar, who was from Washington state, was a summer counselor for the camp.
The Kennebec County Sheriff's Department is investigating the incident in conjunction with the Maine State Police and the Kennebec District Attorney's Office.
They believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
