WATERBORO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- With our recent stretch of dry weather the fire danger remains high in Maine.
State forest rangers say until things start to green up the potential for grass and forest fires will remain high.
Wednesday a Red Flag Warning was issued, as the fire danger went to extreme in some parts of the state. Numerous brush fires were reported throughout Maine.
Some rain expected this weekend will ease the threat, but forest rangers say the danger will return with the sun.
"It'll quiet things down while the ground is wet but as soon as the sun comes out and we have mild temperatures with a little bit of wind it'll dry those fuels right out again", said Claudette Desautles of the Maine Forest Service.
Communities have not been issuing burn permits the past few days. If you get caught burning without a permit you could be fined up to $1,000.
