LUBEC, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- It has been nearly ten years since a Washington County couple died in one of the planes that crashed into the World Trade Center back on September 11th, 2001, and now after the death of Osama bin Laden, the community is reacting.

Those that knew them say Robert and Jackie Norton of Lubec were well known in the community and were actively involved in their church.

Leona MacBride was very good friends with the Nortons and spent a lot of time with them through the Congregational Christian Church.

A memorial garden has been planted in front of the church to commemorate the Nortons.  Leona says the recent news of Osama bin Laden's death doesn't change much, and the Nortons will always be missed.

"Well we still miss them terribly," MacBride said.  "You would think it does save them a little bit, but no, not really."

MacBride says the Nortons were on their way out to California on September 11th to see Jackie's son's wedding.  The couple had been married for seven years.
