LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A giant billboard on wheels rolled into Lewiston Friday as it has in 43 other communities over the last few months.
Mayors Against Illegal Guns has traveled the country with the giant billboard indicating how many people have died from guns in America since the shooting spree in Tucson, Arizona in January.
When the presentation started in Lewiston Friday morning the sign on the billboard showed 4010 people had been murdered and by the end the number increased to 4011.
The group says that according to the CDC 34 people die from gun fire every day.
They want Congress to penalize states that do not help maintain the background check system and require anyone purchasing a gun to go through a background check, including guns sold privately.
