(NEWS CENTER) -- Mitt Romney continues to maintain a sizable lead in the latest WMUR Granite State Poll (pdf). Andrew Smith, Ph.D. of the University of New Hampshire Survey Center goes In The Arena with Pat Callaghan to talk about the results of the poll and what they mean.
773 randomly selected likely voters were surveyed between June 21 and July 1. In the Republican Presidential Primary, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney leads with 35%. Smith says it is notable that Romney has maintained a solid lead in regular surveys over the past two years. In a trial heat against President Obama, Romney comes out ahead 47% to 43%, the only Republican to finish ahead of Obama
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minnesota) is in second at 12%, but her favorability numbers have been rising rapidly from 26% in April to 52% in July. Smith says Bachmann has so far proven to be the most charismatic candidate to campaign in New Hampshire.
Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin has not entered the race, but she tops the list of least popular Republicans, with 23% saying they would not support her under any circumstances.
