BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The upcoming school year is only a few weeks away, and when students, faculty, and staff return to Husson University this fall, they will have a new way to get to downtown Bangor.
Bangor Area Transportation, or BAT Bus, has been working with Husson over the past several months to set up a free bus service for everyone at the university as well as NESCOM to get downtown. The service begins this month, and school officials say there has already been a lot of excitement building around campus, and not just with the students.
"Faculty and staff are interested as well because we have a lot of faculty in apartments," Husson University Dean of Students Sharon Wilson-Barker said. "Our faculty is growing and many of them are in apartments, so that's a service they've been asking about as well, so yeah, I've had a lot of queries about when does it start?"
University officials say the contract with the city is for one year, and the program costs $10,000. The city council has approved the plan. Husson officials say they just have some final paper work left, and the service will be ready when students return in just a few weeks.
