WARREN, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- An inmate at the Maine State Prison has been charged with murdering another inmate earlier this year.

On Friday, State Police charged Frank Higgins with the beating death of Lloyd Millett in June. Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says both men were serving time for murder convictions.

Higgins was indicted by a Knox County Grand Jury on Friday. Millett was assaulted in the prison on May 24 and died on June 7.

Higgins was convicted of the 1999 killing of a woman inside her Kenduskeag home and is serving a 45 year prison term. Millett was convicted of killing two women in November of 1995 in Lewiston and Turner.

Higgins will make his first court appearance on the new murder charge next week in Knox County Superior Court.
