NEW GLOUCESTER, ME (NEWS CENTER)-- A 21-year-old New Gloucester woman has made the U. S. Development Team in the sport of Skeleton.  Skeleton is a sledding event which is held on a bobsled run.  Sherri Emery must travel to Lake Placid, New York to compete.

"It's fun.  I love it!" she told NEWS CENTER.  Emery tried the sport on  a visit to Lake Placid.  She then attended camps put on by the U. S. Bobsled and Skeleton Association. In October, she became one of five members of the Developmental Team, which ranks only below the National Team in status.

Sherri is preparing for the Junior World Championships in Austria later in January.  "There are a lot of athletes from a lot of different levels that are going to be competing in this championship," she said about the daunting challenge in front of her.

Emery has been fundraising in order to pay her way to Austria.  Her community has helped her by raising about $2200.  If you would like to contribute to her cause, click on the link.
