BELFAST, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- A new year means that many Mainers will have to hang a new calender on the wall, and this year workers at Waldo County General Hospital have put together one that's pretty amazing.
The calender depicts people from around the region who have been touched by breast cancer, including victims of the disease as well as survivors.
Hospital employees designed the calender after getting a suggestion for it from Mary Ordway of Belfast. Ordway had been receiving treatment at the hospital for breast cancer after being diagnosed with the disease in July.
She says she hopes sharing the stories of people touched by breast cancer can bring awareness about it to others.
"I also want them to take away the understanding of the strength and the bravery of the women in this calendar," she said, "these women are very, very brave."
The calenders are being sold for $15 at the hospital and other stores in Belfast. All proceeds raised will go to support the hospital's oncology mammography fund. The fund goes to provide financial assistance for key services like mammograms and biopsies to those who need it.
