Makayla Carpenter, Teens Who Care Award Winner
Maykayla Carpenter founded "Ribbons for Linda" at just 14 years old. Ribbons for Linda is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization created in memory of Linda Best, an enthusiastic horse woman who died of pancreatic cancer in May 2009.
Ribbons for Linda dedicates its efforts to help raise awareness and understanding about pancreatic cancer, a disease that continues to be one of the most fatal and least funded of all cancer types.
Makayla is very creative in her fundraising strategies, including staffing a flea market table in York every Saturday through the summer, and organizing a successful annual horse show.
