AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Dozens of people from most every corner of the state were honored for their volunteer work in a ceremony in the Hall of Flags.
The event was the 19th annual Maine Spirit of America recognition ceremony, a chance to thank those who who strengthen their communities through their dedication and service.
"From the parent who spends a morning in a classroom, to the folks who take time to donate blood regularly, and to those young people who spend time serving in the military in some far off country, volunteers demonstrate the best of humanity," said Representative Dennis Keschl in his address to the crowd. "There is a saying, volunteers do not necessarily have the time, but they do have the heart."
The Maine Spirit of America Foundation not only recognizes the work volunteers do in nearly 100 Maine communities, but seeks to encourage others to volunteer as well.
