BRUNSWICK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A house on Mere Point in Brunswick went up in flames Thursday night. The fire could be seen across Maquoit Bay.
It started in a garage and spread to a two-story house before igniting some nearby grass. Radiating heat damaged two homes next door. Firefighters drained a fire pond trying to extinguish the flames, and had to resort to using portable sources filled with water from the Merepoint boat launch.
Fire officials say the home is a total loss. The family that lived there was not hurt. They were out to dinner.
