TOWNSHIP 19, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A wildfire that broke out in Washington County Saturday afternoon ended up burning ten acres in Township 19, north of Columbia Falls.
The Maine Forest Service was called to the fire off of Shadagee Road around 1 P.M. Saturday. The Forest Service said the fire was the result of an escape of a controlled burn in a blueberry field. The blueberry grower who started the controlled burn had a permit, but had an equipment failure on one of the tractors being used.
The Forest Service said it contained the fire within two hours, and there were no injuries.
The blueberry company had a permit for the controlled burn, and no charges will be filed.
The wildfire was one of eight reported across Maine Saturday, as temperatures reached into the seventies in many areas.
