Stetson man found guilty in wildfire case

(NEWS CENTER) -- A Stetson man has been found guilty of burning without a permit and hindering a state forest ranger for his conduct during a wildfire on his property back in March.

The Maine Forest Service said James Pimental was found guilty of the charges in Newport District Court Friday.  In addition to being charged with the two Class E crimes, Pimental was ordered to pay fines of $150 on each charge, as well as $1,300 in restitution for the fire suppression costs.

The Forest Service said Pimental lit a fire March 22nd on his property on Wolfsboro Rd.  Pimental then re-lit the fire as firefighters were attemping to put the first fire out.
