NAPLES, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A man from Windham is thanking a teenager from Naples for rescuing his five year-old nephew from the Songo Locks Dam.
Last Saturday, seventeen year-old David Tucci jumped into the water when he saw that a little boy had fallen in. Five year-old Scott Bellanceau had been looking at the water from a ledge when another child pushed him. Tucci managed to grab Scott, but he was almost taken over by the powerful rushing water. Eventually he made it to shore, where the boy's uncle pulled them both to safety. Tucci says it was scary jumping in the water, but he knew he had to do it.
"I looked up from my pole over there and I see the little guy up to here in the water floating towards the dam," Tucci said. "So I reeled in my pole real fast, I took off my shoes and took my phone out of my pocket and I jumped in after him."
Neither of the boys suffered any injuries.
