OXFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Ater a soft opening on Tuesday, the Oxford Casino is wrapping up its first weekend open to the public.
Casino officials say the facility was filled almost to capacity all week long. On Sunday, it was busy with people from all over the state playing the table games and slot machines. Casino officials would not give actual numbers, but said the turnout was consistent with what they expect for their first weekend. People we talked to were impressed with the facility.
"I like it," Dolores Bigelow of Whitefiled said. "I wish it was a little bit bigger but I think it's going to be fine."
Tony Accardi brought his sister, who was visiting from Boston, to see the casino.
"Oh she loved it," Accardi said. "She was very excited, even when we got into the parking lot. And when we went inside we thought it looked beautiful."
The casino is planning to expand. By October, the second half of the building should be open, which will double the casino's capacity.
