BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- City leaders in Bangor are thinking of trying to find a new home for the Bat Bus hub downtown.

The hub currently is at Pickering Square. Bangor's government operations committee discussed moving it on Tuesday night. That came at the direction of the Bangor City Council.

As many as 9 buses at a time pull into the hub. It's already been moved downtown twice since the Bat Bus started up.

City officials say the square's tendency to be busy is why they are considering moving the hub.

"There's a lot going on down there," said Joe McNeil, who is the city's bus superintendent, "and the idea was floated that there might be a better place for us so we're just trying to make sure that we're where we need to be to perform and do our business right."

A study was conducted years ago to look at other sites downtown for the hub. It came up with several possible locations. City officials say at this point, a move for the hub is only an idea.
