PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- NEWS CENTER is projecting Cynthia Dill and Charlie Summers are the winners of the Democratic and Republican primaries in the race for the US Senate.
Summers defeated five other candidates including Treasury Secretary Bruce Poliquin. Dill pulled away from her closest challenger, former Secretary of State Matt Dunlap. Both Dill and Summers made strong showings in Cumberland and York counties.
Voter turnout appears to be extremely low. Both Dill and Summers will now move on to challenge former Governor Angus King in the November election. The Senate seat opened up when Sen. Olympia Snowe announced she would not run for reelection.
