BAR HARBOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- On June 26, there will be a ceremony at Acadia National Park for the new quarter that pays tribute to Acadia National Park as part of the U.S. Mint's "America the Beautiful Quarters Program." But the post office in Bar Harbor will also be doing something special for the ceremony.
To coincide with the quarter, the Bar Harbor post office will be offering a special postmark for people who come in between 12 and 4:30.
A spokesman for the United States Postal Service says this is a way for people to get an inexpensive souvenir of the occasion.
As for the quarter, the National Park Service worked with the U.S. Mint to figure out what should go on the back of the quarter. Eventually the U.S. Mint picked the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse for the back of the quarter.
"It's one of the icons of the area. A lot of folks like to see. When they think of the Maine coast they think of lighthouses. They think of the rock bound coast, and that area, that particular area exemplifies both of those," Supervisory Park Ranger Ed Pontbriand said.
The Postal service did said if people want to get the special postmark after June 26; they have mail a self addressed envelope to Postmaster, 55 Cottage Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609-9998.
