BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- The arrival of Wednesday's heat was especially hard on the many people across the state who had to work outside.

Officials at Cianbro say they made sure dozens of their workers in Bangor were ready for the heat. More than 100 Cianbro employees are working on the new Bangor arena.

The crews were given plenty of water, and briefed on the dangers and warning signs of heat stroke.

Across the river in Brewer, lifeguards had an easier time beating the heat. They were training for the opening of Brewer's municipal pool on Thursday. While they will be near the water, they'll be spending most of their time out of it and that means they also have to keep the heat in mind.

"We can jump in and get wet and cool off and come back out...we make sure we drink lots of water," said Erin Frick, who is the aquatics director for the pool, "we have all of our umbrellas up on every stand...keep us in the shade and sunscreen to keep us from burning...so we can come back and do it again tomorrow."
