DEXTER, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Three high school students in the Dexter area area playing the role of crime scene investigators, and getting national recognition for it.
A team from the Tri County Technical Center in Dexter has won the state championship for crime scene investigation in the Skills USA competition, and will be representing Maine in the national competition in Kansas City next week.
McKedra Clements and Brian London from Guilford High School and Cody LeCourt from Nokomis High School make up the award-winning team.
Tri-County Technical Center instructor Steven Spaulding coaches the students.
Students have to collect evidence from a crime scene and conduct interviews under a set time limit.
Seasoned investigators and detectives judge the students, and evaluate how thoroughly they comb the crime scene.
Last year, the Dexter team placed 9th at nationals. They hope to improve upon that finish this year.
