KITTERY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A suspicious package left in the Kittery Trading Post parking lot Saturday morning was deemed harmless by police.

Police responded to the Kittery Trading Post just before 9:30 a.m. Saturday for a report of an abandonded package in a secluded area of the parking lot.  Police say an unidentified man had been seen placing the briefcase in the lot and driving off in a van.

Kittery Police blocked off the area and called Maine State Police for assistance.  After investigation, the briefcase was found to be empty and it did not contain any harmful substance or device.
