CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A small plane has crashed into the water near Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth. The crash happened shortly after noon time Sunday.
Cape Elizabeth Fire Chief Peter Gleeson says rescue personnel have found one person who was in the plane. His condition is unknown at this time.
Witnesses say they saw the pilot pull himself out of the plane and start swimming to shore.
No word yet on whether anyone else was in the plane, although one witness says he heard the pilot say something that sounded like he was alone.
Witnesses also say they saw a boat pick the pilot up, again no word yet on his condition.
Cape Elizabeth, Portland, and Coast Guard officials are investigating.
