DEDHAM, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- While the weather was wet on Monday, it did not put a damper on what was the first day for kids at Camp CaPella on Phillips Lake.

The camp is entering its fourty-ninth year serving kids and adults with physical and developmental disabilities. This year private donors chipped in to help raise more than $50,000 for Camp Capella. That money will go to help many kids attend the camp for free.

The camp is also working with the University of Maine to help provide activities for the kids. On Monday many of them got to look at some owls brought in by the Chewonki Foundation. The kids also got to put their floaters on to take a little swim in Phillips Lake. Camp organizers say they want to thank the community for making all the fun possible.

"Everything you see here was here because people cared enough about this camp and cared enough about children with disabilities having this kind of experience," said Dana Mosher, who is the camp's executive director, "that's how important it is...we wouldn't be here if it weren't for those donations and community support."

The camp will be hosting groups of kids for the next five weeks. If you would like to register your child or make a donation to the camp, call (207)843-5104.
