EDDINGTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- Many people donated empty bottles, soda cans and bought baked goods at Eddington School today. The main purpose: helping a family.
All the proceeds from the event are going to help the Pelkey family who was involved in a car crash earlier this month in Bangor.
To help raise money for the family, community members in Eddington filled up a bus with empty bottles and cans.
One of the Pelkey's family members was sorting through cans and bottles today. He said he is stunned to see how many people turned out to help his family in a time of need.
"It's truly amazing. It really is. I heard a couple weeks ago that they were gonna be having this bottle drive and I expected the community to get together and help out but I definitely wasn't expecting this big of a turnout. This is phenomenal what's goin on today," Family member Bruce Sutherland said.
Organizers said if people want to help the Pelkey family they can send checks to the Eddington town office. Checks should be made out to Lisa Pelkey.
