ROCKLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A five year old boy from Owl's Head is recovering in a Boston Hospital, after his hand was cut off in a bizarre traffic accident. And now friends and neighbors are joining forces to raise money for the boy and his family.

Noah Keene was in the back seat of his grandmother's truck when the accident happened. Family friends say Noah had a jump rope wrapped around his arm, with one end hanging out the window. The free end of the rope apparently caught on the wheel of a passing car or on the wheel of the truck. The rope suddenly went tight, cut off the boy's hand and broke his arm. He was taken to Boston, where the hand was reattached and the arm pinned in a 13-hour operation.

On Monday, the Trackside Station restaurant in Rockland will hold a big fundraiser for Noah and his mother. Manager Kelly Woods and her friend Tiffany Monroe say they had to do something to help. The event will include an auction and raffle which have already brought in nearly 200 donations. There will be music and other fundraising activities as well. Tiffany Monroe says Noah is awake in the hospital now, following several days in a medically-induced coma. She says doctors don't yet know how well the hand will recover, but say Noah will likely need a year and a half to two years of physical therapy.
