LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Laurianne Cormier is one person who does not understand the meaning of retirement.

After 30 years of working for a shoe factory in Lewiston, she started volunteering for St. Mary's Hospital... That was back in 1978.

Laurianne is about to turn 100 years old, so to celebrate her birthday and honor her service, her colleagues threw her a surprise birthday party.

After 34 years at St. Mary's you'd think she'd be ready to quit, but she still shows up every week... 2 days a week. She says she'll keep going until someone tells her to stop.

In her years there, Laurianne has logged over 18,500 volunteer hours.

Laurianne was recently recognized as a Volunteer Hero at the state's 26th annual Governor's Awards for Service and Volunteerism. Her actual birthday is Thursday.
