SHERMAN, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- The Maine Forest Service and several fire departments fought around 30 fires along Interstate 95 between Lincoln and Sherman today.

According to the Forest Service, the fires started around 1:00 this afternoon. They believe the cause of these fires came from a truck carrying farm equipment.

A Forest Ranger with the Maine Forest Service said some welding was done on the equipment and wood inside the equipment caught fire. While the truck was driving embers came out and started grass along the interstate on fire.

All of the fires have been put out and the Fire Service said this could have been worse.

"The wind was pushing it into the available fuel so for this being green, grass got burnt. It looked like we had a little over 30 fires from this today," Forest Ranger with the Maine Forest Service Joe Mints said.

Mints said it looks like these fires were started by accident but there will still be an investigation.
