NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- It's difficult for many of us to understand what active military members and veterans have gone through, but there's a group working to help those veterans cope with home life -whether they just got back, or have been home for 20 years.
Veterans Adaptive Sports and Training, also known as VAST, was started by a veteran and former olympic athlete, Kristina Sebasteanski. The program offers a chance to get out and spend time with fellow veterans and get a good workout in.
The adaptive part means whether you have a special ability or disability, they work with veterans to find a way to either cycle or even play tennis comfortably.
Those who have participated in past events say it helps keep them active, when they had given up on being able to do traditional sports.
Sebasteanski says these workouts help both physically and mentally. It's a way for veterans to regain that comradery they lost when they left the service.
The program is free to veterans with or without disabilites, for more information, email Kristina Sebasteanski at ksabaste@maine.rr.com.
