BROWNFIELD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - One man had to be hospitalized after a crash in Brownfield, and several of his rescuers had to be treated for heat exhaustion.
State Police Trooper Michael Smith says around 9:15 PM Saturday, a man driving a pickup truck south on Route 113 suffered an unknown medical event and swerved off the road, crashing into a tree.
Trooper Smith says the man was pinned pretty hard in the truck and suffered broken bones and some internal injuries. A Life Flight helicopter took the man to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Trooper Smith says he will probably survive.
Rescuers from Brownfield, Fryeburg and Denmark responded. They brought the jaws of life to cut the man free from the wreckage. It was hard work, though, and two firefighters suffered heat exhaustion. They were both treated on scene, but one of them still had to be taken to the hospital for further treatment.
Route 113 was closed for about 3 hours while crews cleaned up.
