HUDSON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A Saturday afternoon thunderstorm sent strong winds through Penobscot and Piscataquis Counties, taking down power lines, tearing down tree limbs, and even destroying part of one Hudson man's business.

Strong winds caused a greenhouse collapse at the Ellis Greenhouse and Nursery in Hudson, where owner Kirby Ellis has been growing and selling plants for 30 years.

"We've been through three hurricanes, winter storms, and I've never had any structural damage until yesterday," said Ellis.

He remembers hearing and seeing the hail storm Saturday afternoon from the inside of his garage.

He said the storm passed in about ten minutes, but caused more than ten thousand dollars in damage.

The winds also damaged his chimney, furnaces, and truck -- sending his truck cap flying through the air to get tangled in a line of trees off of Old Town Road in Hudson.

The storm took down trees and power lines in surrounding areas, causing more than 1,000 power outages for Bangor Hydro customers Saturday night.

By Sunday afternoon, about 500 customers were without power, according to Bangor Hydro spokesperson Susan Faloon.

Out of all of the damaged areas, Ellis' home in Hudson appears to be the one hit the hardest.

And yet, he considers himself to be lucky.

"We didn't have any plant material, nobody was hurt, this is all covered by insurance," said Ellis. "So really, it's just an inconvenience.

"But I guess in the big scheme of things, it really isn't that important."
