HARRISON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A fire destroyed a barn in Harrison and spread to the attached home.

Firefighters say it was a bolt of lighting that set off the fire at the barn on Town Farm Road at about 12:30 a.m. on Friday.

"We got the people out and attacked the fire the best we could," said Harrison Fire Fighter, Scott Andrews.  "As soon as I left the house I looked up, I only live a mile from here, and I could see the orange glow so I knew it was fully involved."

Fire crews from as many as nineteen towns responded to the scene.

"We ran out of water for a little while," Andrews explained.  "The fire was so hot from the barn that we lost ground there.  As soon as we got the water supply going, we had a lot of difficulty getting through the roof cause it had not vents, so a lot of the heat was trapped inside because of the metal roofing."

They were not able to save the barn, but worked through the morning to keep the fire contained to the home's attic.

The home, built in the early 1800's was heavily damaged.  The owners, who were home when the fire broke out, were able to escape with out injury, though a fire fighter received minor injuries when the fire flared up.
