BRIDGTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Police in Bridgton are investigating the attempted abduction of a 9-year old girl over the weekend. It happened at a swimming hole on Kansas Road.

A family friend told us that the 9-year old was just meeting up with her friends when the man approached her. Police say she described her attacker as a slightly overweight white man with white hair. He tried to pull her into his vehicle, a white paneled van that looks like an ice cream truck. Police also say there may have been a homemade sign on the truck, advertising ice cream.

Police say the girl did exactly what she should do -- find a way to get away from her attacker, get to her friends, and then find her parents. The family friend says that when he saw her minutes later, she had a scrape on her leg, and all of the kids at the swimming hole were screaming for help.

Police say they have some good leads, but if you have any information about this, or if your child is approached, give them a call at 647-8815, extension 200. They also say this is a good reminder to talk to your kids about stranger danger, and to make sure you always know where they are.
