Driver charged with manslaughter in Biddeford

BIDDEFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A 20-year-old male from Rhode Island is being charged with manslaughter and felony OUI.

Biddeford Police say that Christopher Bennett crashed his vehicle into a utility pole killing his passenger shortly before 1:00am Sunday.  The victim was 20-year-old Anthony Ciccone of Pepperell, Massachusetts.  He was wearing a seatbelt.

Prior to the accident, Bennett and Ciccone were reportedly intoxicated and trying to forcibly enter a residence hall dorm room on University of New England's campus.  UNE security attempted to stop the two males from driving, but investigators are still unsure as to how they were able to get away.  UNE security described the vechile the two males left in as a dark-colored Ford Explorer with Rhode Island registration plates.

At 12:43am, a Biddeford officer reported a crash involving that vehicle in the area of Pool Street and Westbrook Skating rink.

Biddeford Police are reconstructing the accident and continuing to investigate this incident.
