Melissa Kenison, or Melly K - as the Sports Department likes to call her - is a News Intern turned Backpack Journalist.
Melissa's love for storytelling began at the University of Southern Maine where she double majored in Media Studies & Communication. There she was inspired to film a documentary about a mother's grief over sender her son -- a machine-gunner in the Marine Corps -- to fight in the war in Afghanistan. Melissa won Best Writing for A Mother's War at the Maine College Film Festival in 2010.
Within a few days of graduating college, Melissa was hired as the Local Media Coordinator for HighSchoolSports.Net in the Sports Department. Few months went by before Melissa was hired to film, write, and edit her own stories for NEWS CENTER.
Over the last 2+ years, Melissa has happily hiked her gear all over the state in search of unique stories. Watch her do a backhandspring as a result of USA Women's Gymnastics winning team gold at the London Olympics. Then check out this couple who was robbed during a 740 mile canoe paddle.
Melissa is most passionate about Maine Music, Food, and Cheerleading.
Her favorite story is about a cheerleader who becomes an inspiration to her teammates. That story will leave you in tears.
