AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - In addition to the other big items on the Nov. 6 ballot, Maine's first bond package in two years awaits voters.
Four borrowing proposals adding up to nearly $76 million will appear just below the public question that's drawn the most attention: same-sex marriage.
The first bond question will be whether to allow the state to borrow $11.3 million for capital improvements for the University of Maine System, community college system and Maine Maritime Academy.
Other questions seek the authority to borrow $5 million to purchase land and conservation easements, $51.5 million for improvements to highways, bridges and other transportation facilities, and $7.9 million for clean water projects.
Concerned about adding to state debt, the Legislature decided to send no bond questions to voters last year.
