BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Mainers who like to carve up or cook pumpkins in the fall are in store for some good news. Researchers at the University of Maine say they expect there will be plenty of pumpkins to go around in the next few months.

There was just enough rain in July to produce an average crop yield of pumpkins this year. About 900 acres of farm land in the state is used to grow pumpkins each year, producing close to 11,000 tons of them.
