PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) - A group of New Hampshire and Maine residents wants to see the new Memorial Bridge become a "nighttime icon" with aesthetic lighting.
The group is looking to use LED lights to illuminate the pier, tower and plaque on the bridge that will connect Portsmouth, N.H. and Kittery.
Group member Ben Porter of Kittery said for $60,000, the bridge could be illuminated by white lights; for a little more, it could showcase other colors, too.
The proposal includes five years' worth of operating costs. Under the illumination plan, Portsmouth and Kittery would pick up the costs after five years.
Porter tells the Portsmouth Herald with agreements from both municipal bodies, Porter said the illumination panel will be ready to start raising money.
