HOULTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- Houlton High School was full of people paying their final respects to Sgt. 1st Class Aaron Henderson on Wednesday.

Henderson died earlier this month in Afghanistan after he suffered wounds from an improvised explosive device. Henderson was with the A company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Special Forces group.

People who knew Henderson said it did not come as a surprise that he joined the military. Henderson was described as a kind young man who was always willing to help others, and had certain features that those who knew him, will not forget.

"To shake his hand for a guy who was around 6 feet tall, he had the largest hands and when I would shake his hand, his entire hand would wrap right around my hand," Marty Bouchard, who coached Aaron in baseball and basketball said.

"I'll never forget his smiling face, that's for sure. And he was so full of life and loved this area," David Rowe said

Henderson graduated from Hodgdon High School in 1997 where he played soccer, basketball and baseball. He was 33 years old.
