Norman Minsky of Bangor has had a lengthy professional and service career. A principal at Gross Minsky & Mogul, P.A., Mr. Minsky has served in elected office as a Bangor city councilor, the mayor of Bangor, and at the State House. He is a member of many highly-regarded legal organizations.

Minsky is a very active member and past president of Congregation Beth Israel and is past director of the Jewish Community Endowment Associates in Bangor. He works with regional academic and cultural entities to encourage historical preservation and research of Bangor's Jewish community. Several years ago he worked with Rev. Dr. James Haddix of All Souls Congregational Church to present "Faith of Our Neighbors," a popular and successful series inviting clergy from many faiths to speak about their beliefs and traditions.

Minsky's deep interest in music, the arts, and literature has led him to serve on the Board of Bangor Public Library since 1993 (President since 1998). He has been a catalyst for the growth of the Library and for its continued relevance for Bangor. He has encouraged the growth of the Local History collection with documents, artifacts, sponsored programs, helped to establish Bangor's audio book collection, and was instrumental in establishing digital-age library policies.

Barbara McDade, Director of Bangor Public Library, says that "Mr. Minsky's intelligence, passion, and love of our area have all been a force for good for the Library, for Bangor, and for all the people of Maine."

He is past president of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and of several other local organizations. He also served on the advisory board of Baxter State Park.
