PORTSMOUTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- Police have determined a car first spotted in a central Maine town over the course of the weekend is in no way connected to the disappearance of Jessica Ridgeway.

According to a released statement from the Portsmouth Police Department, the car was impounded and transported to a secure facility after it was located behind a Wal-Mart on Lafayette Road. Authorities now say after inspecting the vehicle that they are confident it has no connection to the missing 10-year-old girl from Colorado.

Ridgeway was first reported missing on Friday after she failed to show up for school in her hometown of Westminster. On Thursday a body was discovered not far from where the girl's backpack was found.

Police became interested in the suspected car after it was spotted in Dexter, Maine on Sunday. Authorities say they have since located its owner and the car has been released.
