HOPE, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Two elephants are now in Maine, ready to start their retirement.
Rosie and Opal are two Asian elephants.
They used to perform in the circus, but they're older now and suffer from arthritis and need a little extra care.
They arrived at their new home in the town of Hope Saturday.
Doctor Jim Laurita is a local veterinarian and former circus worker.
Dr. Laurita raised money for a charity he started called "Hope Elephants," and built a 12-hundred square foot barn for the elephants.
Laurita says that the addition of elephants to the charity will help with their outreach efforts.
He says that once the animals are settled into their new homes, he'll open the facility up for small groups to visit.
