(NBC) - An arrest has been made in the grisly murder of 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway.
Police arrested a 17-year-old male early Wednesday morning on charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping.
NBC News is not identifying the suspect because he is a juvenile.
Ridgeway disappeared while walking to school in Westminster, Colorado the morning of October 5th.
Hundreds of law enforcement and local volunteers searched around the clock for more than a week to find the missing 10-year-old.
Her remains were later discovered in a wooded area just a few miles from her home.
"We notified the Ridgeway family of this arrest and we hope and pray that this arrest brings them some measure of closure in dealing with this enormous loss that they've suffered," Westminster Police Chief Lee Birk said in announcing the arrest.
The 17-year-old also faces attempted kidnapping and attempted murder charges of a jogger he allegedly attacked in the same area of Colorado back in May.
He appears in court to face all of these charges Thursday morning.
